FAQs
What if I don’t know where to start?
Not sure where to start? That’s completely normal. Your first session is all about feeling safe and comfortable — there’s no pressure to have the right words or know all the answers.
I’ll guide the conversation based on what brought you in and what you hope to work on. I’ll also explain how the session will flow so you know what to expect. You don’t need to prepare anything in advance — just come as you are. The goal is to help you feel grounded, supported, and informed as we begin working together.
What can you expect for your first session?
Many people arrive feeling unsure, overwhelmed, or simply aware that something isn’t working. We’ll take it one step at a time. You’re welcome to start wherever feels easiest — a feeling, a situation, or even just “I’m not sure why I’m here.”
Not knowing where to start is actually a sign that you’re ready for support. You don’t have to figure it out alone.
What is Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR) therapy and how is it different from other therapies?
Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR) is a structured, person-centered approach designed to help reduce the emotional impact of past experiences that continue to cause distress. These experiences don’t have to be dramatic or extreme — even events that felt confusing, overwhelming, or painful at the time can create lingering emotional tension.
IIn TIR, you are guided to revisit these incidents in a safe, focused way while remaining fully aware and in control. The goal is not to relive trauma, but to allow your mind to process and complete the experience so it no longer carries the same emotional charge in your present life.
What makes TIR unique is its gentle, non-interpretive approach: I do not analyze, diagnose, or tell you what your experience means. Instead, the process allows insights, understanding, and resolution to emerge naturally, often leaving people with a sense of clarity, relief, and closure.
Unlike traditional talk therapy that may focus on ongoing discussion or coping strategies, TIR works to address the root of distress, helping individuals notice lasting change once an incident has been fully processed. It is suitable for adults, teens, and people in recovery, and every session is conducted at a pace that feels safe, respectful, and tailored to your needs, creating a space where healing can truly take place.
TIR is supported by the Traumatic Incident Reduction Association (TIRA), the international organization that sets standards, provides training, and maintains ethical guidelines for practitioners.
